With the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival taking place later this month (April 12 to 14 and April 19 to 21), festival season is officially upon us. And, in our opinion, half the fun of planning for these warm-weather events is pulling together the perfect look. Here are some tips and tricks to get you ready.

Tip: We know that everyone wants to be fashionable at festivals, but err on the side of practicality here. This isn’t the time to teeter around in heels on the grass or worry about new, white shoes getting a little beer spilt on them (which will definitely happen at some point).

Try: Rubber was made for festival season and these slides are trendy and comfy. Hunter Original Lightweight Moulded Slide, $50.

Accessories

Tip: Avoid appropriation by not wearing cultural or religious items such as bindis, feathered headdresses and cornrow braids, unless you are from those groups. Instead, have fun with this season’s trends by going for headbands, dramatic sunglasses and belt bags.

Try: Stash your stuff and keep your hands free with the season’s coolest bag. Call It Spring Arroww Belt Bag, $29.99.

Skincare

Tip: Do you know what’s not cool at an outdoor festival? Sunburns. Don’t be the person that people cringe at because of your beet-red shoulders or over-exposed forehead. Throw on a cool hat and layer on sunscreen in the morning and then repeat, repeat, repeat.

Try: If your skin does see a bit too much sun, cool it down with an after-sun spray. well.ca Herbivore After Sun, $15.
