From Wrigley Field and deep-dish pizza to the world’s most iconic Ferris wheel, Chicago has everything you need to inspire great family memories
The city’s No. 1 tourist attraction is laced with great strolling areas, spectacular views, kid-friendly rides (especially the Ferris wheel), live music and fireworks in the summer. Families should put it on their must-visit list.
A Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field is the classic, ivy wall-covered experience. Cubs season runs from early April to the end of September. They haven’t made it to the World Series since 1945, but the die-hard fans don’t care.
Willis Tower Skydeck
Head to the skydeck of the tallest building in North America, Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), and, on a clear day, check out four states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin) as you take in the 360-degree view. See who’s got the nerve to step onto the new Plexiglas boxes that extend outside of the building.
Pizza, Popcorn and Chocolate
Kids gotta eat. And Chicago classics, like deep-dish pizza, are on the “will eat” list for most. So plan on going deep. For snacks, hit Garrett Popcorn Shops for the Chicago Mix, a blend of cheese and caramel. For dessert, head to the Hershey store to purchase a 5-lb. Hershey bar and nab some free samples.
Bring along a change of clothes if you’re travelling with your clan. Once kids get near the two 16-metre glass block cubes called Crown Fountain, they will feel the need to splash in the shooting water. Stroll the pathways and listen to the live music that is a summertime staple.
American Girl Place
If you bring a little girl to Chicago, you pretty much have to visit this two-storey emporium of all things doll-related. And, if you have little ones not into dolls, the LEGO Store is steps away.
