The Oak Bay Beach Hotel in Victoria, B.C., will be restored to its original grandeur when it celebrates its summer reopening with a star-studded celebration this month. The venerable property has stood along the shoreline for more than 80 years and the $52-million revamp is preserving much of the hotel’s original features. “We literally removed beams and bricks, leaded windows and light fixtures by the thousands,” says owner Kevin Walker. The Miracle Weekend package, May 25 to 27, will showcase the hotel’s ties to music producer-writer and Victoria native David Foster, although the event will now be held at the Fairmont Empress Hotel due to construction delays. The Oak Bay Beach Hotel’s dinner theatre is named after Foster, who is a 16-time Grammy winner. Over the next 10 years, Walker pledges to donate $2 million to the David Foster Foundation, which provides financial support to Canadian families with children needing life-saving organ transplants. This weekend package, priced at $5,000 per person, includes VIP seating at Foster’s “Miracle Concert” on May 26 plus a complimentary weekend at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel when it opens this summer.
