Trade in your mufflers and mittens for shirtsleeves and sunscreen—it’s outdoor event season in Scottsdale. Every winter the city hosts some of the nation’s most popular special events, including collector car auctions, cultural festivals, horse shows and professional sports.
With plenty of blue skies and daytime highs near 72 degrees (22 C), the weather’s just right for outdoor diversions of any kind.
Here’s a sneak peek at six special events coming to Scottsdale this winter.
Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction
Jan. 13 – 21, 2018
Barrett-Jackson rolls into WestWorld of Scottsdale with an unparalleled selection of collector cars, as well as an opening-night gala and a marketplace filled with automobilia. At press time, the 2018 docket includes a 1934 Packard 1101 Cabriolet, a 1939 Ford Custom Roadster and a 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster.
Celebration of Fine Art
Jan. 13 – March 25, 2018
More than 100 juried artists from across the U.S. come to Scottsdale and set up working studios under the Celebration of Fine Art’s legendary big white tents. Talk with painters, sculptors, glass and jewelry makers, and other fine artists as your browse their works and watch them create new masterpieces.
Waste Management Phoenix Open
Jan. 29 – Feb. 4, 2018
“The Greatest Show on Grass” draws the largest crowds on the PGA TOUR to the TPC Scottsdale for a week of championship golf. And the fun doesn’t stop there. When the day’s rounds are done, head over to the Coors Light Birds Nest (Jan. 31 – Feb. 3, 2018) for concerts by some of music’s biggest names.
Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show
Feb. 15 – 25, 2018
Since 1955, the annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show has set the pace in the Arabian horse world. This year, nearly 2,400 of the world’s finest horses, trainers and breeders will converge on Scottsdale for a week of unmatched equestrian competition. The show also features an international food court and an expansive retail marketplace where you’ll find everything from equestrian gear to fashions, jewelry, art and more.
Feb. 23 – 24, 2018 & March 2 – 3, 2018
Scottsdale Public Art’s annual Canal Convergence event returns to the Scottsdale Waterfront for its sixth year of large-scale, interactive installations by local and international artists. The event, held over two exciting weekends, includes hands-on activities for kids, live music and other entertainment.
Every March, Cactus League Spring Training brings MLB action to Scottsdale. The San Francisco Giants play ball at Scottsdale Stadium, while the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks take to the field at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Come watch the “home” teams take on the competition.
